First Trip to Labor & Delivery

Well, I made my first trip to Labor and Delivery today at the hospital. I slipped and fell last night on some leaves as we were leaving our Childbirth Prep class and didn't really think too much of it until I woke up this morning a little sore. I called the doctor just to be safe and and was told just to go right to the hospital for monitoring. Apparently, anytime you fall or get hit in an accident or anything at all, they send you to Labor and Delivery to monitor the baby and make sure everything is ok. It was a little stressful at first, but I'm really glad that I went because it eased my mind that everything is fine! When I arrived they took me right into a room and had me change into a gown and then hooked me up to the fetal monitor which raps around your belly and picks up the baby's heartrate. Her heart was beating perfectly. She was quite active too and everytime she moved it may this loud sound on the monitor. They kept me hooked up to it for several hours just to make sure there were no changes. I also had my blood pressure monitored and it was good as well. I was a little nervous about my blood pressure after my last doctor appointment when it was slightly elevated. I'm convinced now that it was high because I rushed out of work to get to the doctor's office on time and walked up 2 flights of steps and then they took me right in when I got there. They had rechecked it and it went back down, but I was still nervous about it. So I was glad to see today that my blood pressure was consistent and at a good rate. The nurse asked me at one point if I wanted her to turn off the sound of the heartbeat because it was pretty loud and I said "No", I'm enjoying just laying here listening to it. It was such a reassuring feeling that she is OK. They also did some bloodwork to make sure that there wasn't any sign of internal bleeding and that all came back good. Before I left the hospital, they gave me my first Rhogam shot right in the butt! Since my blood type is O-negative, this is necessary to prevent my body from building up an antibodies for future pregnancies. I will receive another one of these shots when I deliver and hopefully that will be it. I got home about 6:00 and am just taking it easy these evening and enjoying feeling her kick and move all around!

Some History.....

After nearly 2 years and 8 months of trying to conceive, on June 3, 2008 (my Dad's Birthday!) I FINALLY got my first ever BFP!!! ("big fat positive" on a pregnancy test for anyone not familiar with the lingo). I was scheduled to go to my doctor's office on the morning of June 4 for a pregnancy test, but my nurse told me that if I took a test on the morning of the 3rd, it would probably be accurate! Of course I couldn't wait..... the anticipation was killing me. I didn't tell Phil my plan was to take a test that morning so I tried to hurry up before he left for work hoping it would be good news. I took the test just after 6am and set it on the bathroom counter. I couldn't look. I waited a few minutes and it total disbelief, there it was before my eyes, 2 pink lines!!!

I had never seen that before, ever! I ran to see if Phil was in the driveway, but he was already gone so I calmly, or as calmly as I could, called him and told him that I was fine, but he needed to turn around and come back to the house immediately! I said, "don't ask any questions, just get back here". Of course he thought the worst and apparently did a u-turn in somebody's front yard and came flying back home....good thing he was only down the road. He came flying in the door from the garage and was like, "What's wrong?" and I said, "Nothing's wrong!" "I'M PREGNANT!!!" He was in shock for a few seconds and didn't understand and I told him that the nurse told me I could take a test today and it would probably be accurate! I showed him the test and he was in disbelief. He kept asking if I knew what the test means and I said of course I know what it means, 2 pink lines means pregnant. He was just baffled in disbelief and shock. We were both in shock! He had to get to work so he left again and called a few minutes later and told me to stop at the pharmacy and buy some more tests. I said I would, but that I didn't think this was false. I didn't have time that morning to stop on my way to work so I went out at lunch time and bought 3 more tests, all different brands. I got back to the office and took 2 more tests and sure enough they clearly said I was pregnant! I don't think I got too much work done that day... I was on Cloud 9! We decided that we weren't going to tell anybody until after our doctor's appointment the next morning confirmed the pregnancy. That was torture to keep the news from everyone until the next day!

The Baby's Room in Progress!!

This is the room before we started.... sorry Chris :'(

Phil spent a lot of time prepping the room and then painting it a beautiful shade of pink!
Our first piece of wainscoting is up!!

The busy painters!

I was finally allowed in the room to see the progress! Trotter definitely knows something is up. He won't leave my side!

Yeah, the chandelier is up!!!

Baby Furniture

This is a picture of the furniture that we picked out for our Baby Girl! We don't have it yet because the room is not complete. We still need to have the new carpet installed and then we can go get the furniture! We are so excited to see the furniture in the new room!!!

Finally started my Blog!

I've been wanting to start a Pregnancy Blog for quite some time now and just didn't know how to go about it. I think I've finally figured it out now that I'm already 26 weeks, 5 days pregnant! Oh well, this is the fun time now anyway, right?! I'm going to try and post some history as to how we got to this point and then I'll hopefully be updating frequently to keep everyone posted on our progress!
